Am 14. April tritt das Privatkonkursverfahren von Karl-Heinz Grasser in eine entscheidende Phase. An diesem Tag findet am Bezirksgericht Kitzbühel die sogenannte Prüfungstagssatzung statt, bei der die im Verfahren angemeldeten Forderungen der Gläubiger geprüft und anerkannt werden. Für den ehemaligen Finanzminister (FPÖ, später ÖVP-nah) wäre es der erste öffentliche Auftritt seit seiner rechtskräftigen Verurteilung im Buwog-Verfahren und dem anschließenden Haftaufenthalt. Laut Einträgen in der Ediktsdatei des Justizministeriums und Angaben des Gläubigerschutzverbands KSV1870 wurden im Zusammenhang mit dem Privatkonkurs weit über 30 Mio. Euro an Forderungen angemeldet.
Der KSV1870 rechnet damit, dass "deutlich über 22 Mio." Euro davon letztlich anerkannt werden. Insgesamt haben zehn Gläubiger Forderungen gegen den 57-Jährigen eingebracht, wobei die Republik Österreich als Hauptgläubiger auftritt. Bekannt ist, dass die Republik rund 12,7 Mio. Euro aus Schadenersatzansprüchen im Zusammenhang mit dem Buwog-Verfahren geltend macht und das Finanzamt weitere 7,9 Mio. Euro an Steuerforderungen eingefordert hat. Weitere Forderungen resultieren unter anderem aus Beratungs- und Steuerleistungen; sie summieren sich zu dem Gesamtvolumen von über 30 Mio. Euro.
Grasser hatte Ende April 2025 Privatkonkurs beantragt und ein Schuldenregulierungsverfahren angestrebt. Geplant war eine Entschuldung über eine Barquote von 3 Prozent, die innerhalb von zwei Wochen geleistet werden sollte. Eine dafür zunächst im August angesetzte Prüfungstagssatzung war kurzfristig abberaumt worden, nun wurde der Termin auf Mitte April festgelegt. Trotz der hohen Summen äußerte sich der KSV1870 anerkennend über Grassers Verhalten im laufenden Verfahren.
Für den früheren Finanzminister besteht keine Pflicht, bei der nicht-öffentlichen Verhandlung persönlich zu erscheinen; er kann sich von seinen Rechtsvertretern vertreten lassen. Der Gläubigerschutzverband geht jedoch eher davon aus, dass Grasser selbst in Kitzbühel anwesend sein wird. Der ehemalige Kärntner Landeshauptmannstellvertreter, der von 2000 bis 2007 das Finanzressort der Bundesregierung leitete, war Anfang Jänner nach sieben Monaten aus der Justizanstalt Innsbruck entlassen und in elektronisch überwachten Hausarrest überstellt worden. Er lebt mit seiner Ehefrau, der Unternehmerin und Swarovski-Millionenerbin Fiona Pacifico Griffini-Grasser, und der gemeinsamen Tochter auf einem Anwesen in Kitzbühel und geht – wie für Personen im Hausarrest vorgeschrieben – einer Beschäftigung nach; laut APA-Informationen arbeitet er derzeit bei einem Unternehmen vor Ort.
