Im Privatkonkursverfahren des früheren österreichischen Finanzministers Karl-Heinz Grasser stehen Forderungen in Millionenhöhe im Raum. Beim Bezirksgericht Kitzbühel wurden laut Gläubigerschutzverband KSV1870 Forderungen von deutlich über 30 Millionen Euro angemeldet, in einem Verfahrensteil ist von insgesamt rund 35,6 Millionen Euro die Rede. Insolvenzverwalter Herbert Matzunski aus Innsbruck erkennt davon nach aktuellem Stand rund 23,1 Millionen Euro an. Grassers Anwalt Thomas Payer rechnet damit, dass „deutlich über 22 Millionen“ Euro formell bestätigt werden.
Zu der sogenannten Prüfungstagsatzung in Kitzbühel erscheint Grasser selbst nicht. Der Ex-Minister sei zur Teilnahme nicht verpflichtet und könne „nichts beitragen“, begründet Payer die Entscheidung. Es handle sich um einen üblichen, eher unspektakulären Termin, der in etwa einer halben Stunde erledigt sein dürfte und in dem ausschließlich die eingebrachten Forderungen behandelt werden. Zehn Gläubiger haben Ansprüche angemeldet, der mit Abstand größte Gläubiger ist die Republik Österreich, die unter anderem rund 12,7 Millionen Euro aus Schadenersatzansprüchen im Zusammenhang mit dem Buwog-Verfahren sowie 7,9 Millionen Euro an Steuerforderungen geltend macht.
Zur Masse gehören auch persönliche Vermögenswerte des 57-Jährigen: So wurde eine Uhr Grassers vom Insolvenzverwalter um 25.000 Euro verkauft, zudem ist seine Lebensversicherung aufgelöst worden. In einem weiteren Verfahren in Liechtenstein wird ein Geldwäsche-Komplex geprüft. Grasser hatte Ende April 2025 Privatkonkurs beantragt und ein Schuldenregulierungsverfahren angestrebt; er wollte sich über eine Barquote von 3 Prozent innerhalb von zwei Wochen entschulden.
Grasser lebt in Kitzbühel und befindet sich nach seiner rechtskräftigen Verurteilung im Buwog-Verfahren und einem daran anschließenden, siebenmonatigen Haftaufenthalt in Innsbruck nun im elektronisch überwachten Hausarrest. Er trägt eine Fußfessel und geht derzeit einer Arbeit in der Gamsstadt nach. Der ehemalige FPÖ-Politiker, später der ÖVP nahestehend, war von 2000 bis 2007 Finanzminister. Gemeinsam mit seiner Ehefrau, der Unternehmerin und Swarovski-Millionenerbin Fiona Pacifico Griffini-Grasser, sowie der gemeinsamen Tochter wohnt er auf einem Anwesen in Kitzbühel.
